Making Institutions Gender-Responsive

Sushasini works to educate elected women representatives on gender-centric governance and pushes them to evolve new agendas through gender lens, ensuring safety for women and girls. The cell supports them to establish their rightful position as leaders of the village, responsible for inclusive development of the entire village. It focuses on unique concepts like ‘safety index’ to sensitise panchayats t and realise objectives of 73rd amendment. It is dedicated to promoting the political empowerment of women in Kutch. They seek to build the capacities of women in local-level governing bodies to advocate effectively on women’s issues and bring about transparency in village development processes.

  • Orientation and training of newly-elected women Sarpanch. Perspective and Technical Capacity Building of Elected Women Representatives and Women Sarpanch-s on their roles and budgeting processes for Panchayats - block-level workshops aimed at collectivising women sarpanch-s at the district levels
  • Building perspective through trainings on gender inclusive governance with the male and female members of the Panchayat associations of Bhuj and Anjar.
  • District Level Collectivisation : The purpose is to build a platform for women sarpanch-s to advocate for women’s issues, to make women’s ideas of social change actionable 
  • Capacity Building of Women Sarpanch-s : Trainings and workshops are held with women sarpanch-s on Panchayati Raj, gender, livelihood generation, rights and responsibilities of the sarpanch, role of panchayat members, how to make women and child-friendly panchayats
  • Capacity Building with Block Level Associations : Trainings are held with members of the block level associations on gender equity, inclusion of women, and building a platform for women sarpanch-s
  • Block-level core group : For the past 2-3 years, core groups have been formed at the block level, which includes elected representatives and non-elected women interested in working for the panchayat. Trainings are held to build the capacity of these women on various facets like mohalla sabhas, social perspectives, gender disparity and how to start initiatives to generate more livelihoods. This is done with the aim to encourage participation of more women in village issues, to involve them in decisions of the village, and advocate at the village level for women’s issues.
